Meet Black Shawl Cabaret
Founded in 2022 by Adora Opens, BSC aims to bring entertainment to a whole new level to in the Tri-Cities. With a young performing collective we sure do have a lot to say in a big way. Bringing not only our passion to the stage but bringing YOU amazing performers & artists from the region to showcase the full spectrum of Burlesque, the art of tease.
Our name pays homage to Pocahontas Hale, a Cherokee Medicine Woman who owned her own business here in Bristol, on the grounds of state street, where the Cameo Theatre sits today, The Black Shawl. A brothel, and Bristol’s first at that.
The connection to her story, the stolen land we sit on today & the importance of never forgetting that a woman owned a business & building in the 1800’s is what drew Adora to our namesake.
About Adora, Producer & Founder
I am a storyteller at heart and the acts I bring to the stage are a reflection of my emotions, state of mind, nostalgia, stance on social & political issues. I aim to express myself through the art of tease & liberate myself and those around me, even for just a moment.
I came into this art form in my late 20’s, and have found it to be so eye opening. Learning about my inner self, my passions, what a true support system looks like, & even reaching outside my comfort zone to find a whole new side of me just waiting to be explored.
The amount of body positivity & acceptance in this community makes you feel like you’ve always been here. Isn’t it time for you to take your seat at the table? We’ve been waiting for you.
